Hawaii SEO run by one senior strategist
No account manager, no junior doing the work while a senior sells it. You work with the person doing it.

Leigh TraskFounder and senior strategist. Based in Kaimuki, Honolulu.
Who is doing the work
Leigh Trask founded SEMhawaii after a decade of enterprise SEO consulting, most of it for national restaurant chains running search across thousands of locations. That work was governance at scale: templates, schema and local landing pages that had to stay correct in every market at once.
Hawaii is the opposite problem. One town, one Google profile, and a field of competitors who mostly have not done the basics. The same technical discipline applies with far less standing between the work and a result.
That is why the local SEO work starts with a free audit instead of a retainer, why every town page is written for its own market rather than swapped from a template, and why the method is published instead of kept vague.
Why it is one person
Most of a large agency retainer never reaches the work. It pays for the layers between you and it.
You never re-explain your business
The same strategist from the first call through every month after it. Nothing gets lost being passed between an account manager, a writer, and a technical person who have never spoken to you.
The person who scoped it does it
A common agency pattern is that the senior person you meet in the pitch is not the person who touches your account afterwards. Here there is nobody else to hand it to.
Less of your budget on overhead
No account layer, no reporting theatre, no office. What you pay for is strategy and execution, which is the only part that moves rankings.
What that honestly means
Being one person has real limits, and it is fairer to name them than to let you discover them later.
A small number of clients at a time
Capacity is finite, and taking on more than that would make everybody a worse client.
Sometimes the answer is not yet
If there is no room, you will be told, rather than signed and quietly queued behind other work.
Not every job is the right fit
Enterprise estates with several publishing teams usually need an in-house function, not one outside strategist.
The free audit is the filter
It is also how the decision gets made about whether the work is worth doing at all, for either of us.
What you actually get
Nobody hires a search strategist because they want a story. They want more of the right people finding them. This is what that buys you.

You see the problem before you pay to fix it
The audit is free and comes before any invoice. Plenty of people read it and decide not to hire me.
A site both machines can read
Real HTML, not pages that only exist once JavaScript has run. AI assistants cannot run JavaScript.
Written for how people here search
The words change between Kailua and Kona. Pages get built for the searches that actually exist.
You keep all of it
Pages, technical fixes and your Google profile stay yours if you stop. Nothing sits locked in an agency account.
Based in Kaimuki, working across Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island.
Real Hawaii businesses, real results
I actually understand what is happening now. That never used to be true.
We were invisible next to the big studios. Now people find us first when they search for yoga here.
Walk-ins, online orders, and catering all come through search now. That was not happening before.
What people ask before hiring
01Who actually does the work?
Leigh Trask, on every account. There is no team to hand it to.
- The person on the first call is the person doing the audit, the technical fixes and the content plan.
- Nothing is passed to an account manager or a junior after the pitch.
- Background is a decade of enterprise SEO, most of it for national restaurant chains across thousands of locations.
That is the whole model, and it is also why the client count stays small.
02What happens when you are at capacity?
You get told, rather than signed and quietly queued behind other work.
- Capacity is finite with one person, and taking on more would make everybody a worse client.
- If there is no room now, you hear that on the audit call rather than three months in.
It costs nothing to find out where the queue stands.
03Do you only work with Hawaii businesses?
Hawaii is the focus, because local search rewards knowing the market you are selling into.
- The work is built around how people search here, and the words change between Kailua and Kona.
- Businesses outside Hawaii are taken case by case, usually where the same local playbook applies.
- Enterprise estates with several publishing teams usually need an in-house function instead.
If it is not a fit, saying so early is cheaper for both sides.
04How does the free audit work?
It comes before any invoice, and plenty of people read it and decide not to hire anyone.
- You get the findings in writing: what is broken, what is winnable, and what order to fix it in.
- It doubles as the filter for whether the work is worth doing at all, for either side.
- Nothing is gated behind a form sequence and there is no obligation attached.
If the honest answer is that you do not need help yet, that is what it will say.
