The Hawaii SEO checklist, in order
Eight steps, in the sequence they actually work. Nothing gated and nothing to download.
Work it top to bottom
The order matters more than the list. Most Hawaii businesses start at step five, writing pages before anybody has worked out which searches are worth writing for.
Set goals worth tracking
Decide what a win actually looks like before touching the site. Calls and form fills from organic search, not impressions.
Done when you can name the number that has to move and where you will read it. If the answer is just more traffic, it is not finished.
Do the keyword research first
Find the terms locals and visitors really type, sorted by buying intent rather than by volume. This decides everything after it.
Done when every term is ranked by what it is worth and you have thrown some away. A list nobody has cut is homework, not research.
Fix what search engines cannot read
Crawl errors, slow templates, missing structure, and pages that only appear once JavaScript has run. AI crawlers do not run JavaScript.
Done when the page still reads with JavaScript switched off, and Search Console says crawled rather than discovered.
Claim and finish the Google Business Profile
Categories, services, hours and photos, filled in deliberately rather than claimed and abandoned. For most local businesses this moves first.
Done when every field Google offers is filled, including the ones that feel pointless. The empty fields are the signal.
Write the pages that answer real searches
One page per service and per town you serve, each answering its question in the first paragraph.
Done when each page answers one search in its opening paragraph and no two pages are chasing the same one.
Earn reviews on a routine
A habit your team can keep up, worded so customers describe the actual job rather than leaving a bare star.
Done when asking belongs to one person on a set day, rather than being remembered after a good week.
Make the citations agree
Name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear. Inconsistent listings quietly hold back everything else.
Done when the name, address and phone match character for character, suite numbers and abbreviations included.
Measure, then decide what is next
Check the searches that convert, not the vanity ones, and let that pick the following month of work.
Done when the work for next month is named and dated, chosen from what the numbers said rather than from what is easiest.
